The EDGE technology is used to increase network capacity and data rates in mobile network. EDGE provides up to three times the data capacity of GPRS..EDGE is just like GPRS, but it can handle four times of traffic faced in GPRS.EDGE requires 3G network. With the help of EDGE mobile internet connection can correspond to 500 kbit/s ADSL service. EDGE provides 3G packet data throughput on GSM networks, and uses a new modulation scheme to enable data throughput speeds of up to 384kbit/s using existing GSM infrastructure. Using EDGE we can add extra capacity to voice communication. EDGE uses 200kHz carrier bandwidth as today's GSM network, which allows it to be overlaid directly onto an existing GSM network. EDGE is a software upgrade to GSM/GPRS networks.
