SATA Hard Disk

In this modern era of computers everything needs more speed an high performance. When it comes to hard disk drive people expect more hard disk space and faster access. This paved the way for the invention of SATA HDD also known as Serial ATA, from the regular IDE Hard Disk. SATA stands for Serial Advanced Technology Attachment. They can transfer the data at a speed of 1.5Gbps and it is said the latest SATA can even go up to a speed of 3.0Gbps. They are attached to the motherboard of a computer as like inserting a pen drive in the pen drive slot. Their predecessor IDE was like connecting a hard disk to a computer, which is like connecting a massive storage device and the motherboard has to be more adaptive and should be enhanced to search or retrieve data from it. The power consumption by the SATA disk is far much lesser than a IDE HDD, which means we ca even connect two or more SATA HDD with a normal SMPS in the system while we can not do so in the case of IDE HDD. This is made possible by the usage of new power connector to the Hard Disk which is like wafer connector which is used to make the data cable in the mother board. But it has more pins than the traditional connector, because of various reasons like it needs 5 pins to be grounded etc. SATA uses a point-to-point architecture. The connection between the controller and the storage device is direct. Modern PC systems usually have a SATA controller on the motherboard, or installed in a PCI or PCI Express slot. Some SATA controllers have multiple SATA ports and can be connected to multiple storage devices. There are also port expanders present in it which enables us the option of allowing multiple storage devices to be connected on a single SATA Controller Port. The latest addiction in SATA is the eSATA, standardized in 2004, provides a variant of SATA meant for external connectivity. It has revised electrical requirements in addition to incompatible cables and connectors:
  • Minimum transmit potential increased: Range is 500–600 mV instead of 400–600 mV.
  • Minimum receive potential decreased: Range is 240–600 mV instead of 325–600 mV.
  • Identical protocol and logical signaling (link/transport-layer and above), allowing native SATA devices to be deployed in external enclosures with minimal modification
  • A protective case to keep the SATA safe inside it.

Windows Registry Part 2

Every thing is organized into small groups so as to reduce its complexity. Like wise Windows Registry is also been organized into small working sections called HIVES. The name of the hive starts with HKEY and they are defined by their Windows Application Programming Interface API. They usually have a big name which can be abbreviated to a word starting with HK like HKCU and HKLM, they stand for HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE respectively. If we want to check or change the value of a software we can do so by accessing the following path "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Vendor's name\Application's name\Version\Setting name", where in we can see the version name, vendor details, application name etc using this registry key. When ever you change a value in this registry it is stored in the current user using HKEY_CURRENT_USER and not in the administrator's account, to prevent the system from failure due to the editing in the registry done by a particular. It is built in this way that there should be a maximum probablity to restore the computer rather than formatting it each and every time when a problem occurs. There is another hive which is used to collect the system's performance data is HKEY_PERFORMANCE_DATA. the usage of this is to provide runtime information into performance data provided by either the NT kernel itself or by using the other programs that provide performance data. This key is not displayed in the Registry Editor usually, but it is visible through the registry functions in the Windows Application Programming Interface API. The registry values in Windows can be edited manually in by running regedit.exe or regedt32.exe in the Windows directory or in the run window. However, careless registry editing can cause irreversible damage. Thus, performing backups of the registry before editing it is highly recommended just to prevent the system from crashing. Many optimization and "hacking" tools are available in the net to modify the registry portion of the Windows operating system; it is preferable not to use them unless one has a knowledge of registry workings or wishes to learn more about the registry.

Windows Registry Part 1

Most of the PC's in the world are running on windows platform or at least the most of the PC's in the eastern world are using it just because of its easy user interface. This post is about one of the core components of the windows - the Windows registry. Windows Registry is a directory which stores the setting and other important things which are required for the proper running of the windows OS. It also has the settings for the hardware, non operating system's settings etc. Whenever the authenticated user makes a change in the control panel settings, installs software which needs to change the registry keys everything gets reflected here in this directory files. By accessing the registry files it will show us the system properties and more or less all the information regarding the system like the counters, active hardware etc. It is very similar to the runtime processing shower syncs and procfs. Before these windows registry was invented there were *.ini files which is used to save the settings of the programs then and there in their respective folders later this method was found absurd because the windows had difficulty in tracking all these *.ini files every time the windows executes an operation. The following are the list of registry values used in windows,

  • REG_NONE
  • REG_SZ
  • REG_EXPAND_SZ
  • REG_BINARY
  • REG_DWORD/REG_DWORD_LITTLE_ENDIAN
  • REG_DWORD_BIG_ENDIAN
  • REG_LINK
  • REG_MULTI_SZ
  • REG_RESOURCE_LIST
  • REG_FULL_RESOURCE_DESCRIPTOR
  • REG_RESOURCE_REQUIREMENTS_LIST
  • REG_QWORD/REG_QWORD_LITTLE_ENDIAN
These registry values are used for different registry keys to change their value.

Motorola Mobiles Adv and Disadv

Motorola was always been a big company in European markets. But in India they are still the infamous and non-selling brand of company. Well let us see the advantages and disadvantages of using the first six sigma qualified company of the world has. The first advantage of these brand mobiles which is still under cover is they are cheap mobiles compared to other brands such as Nokia etc. For example if we can buy a Nokia mobile with FM feature for 2K then we can buy the same featured mobile in Motorola But due to the lack of publicity of their models are always not been selected by the customers. They concentrate on advertising mobiles with good camera, Fm etc, I would suggest them to try concentrating on the lower models and their publicity and high sales of them will automatically boost the sales of all other higher models. The next disadvantage in their mobile brands is that they are prone to higher damage when dropped unlike all other brand mobiles. The well example is my own mobile its display got broke when I accidentally dropped my mobile. Even after I repaired it, there were other side effects too; it started to get jammed frequently. So if they can see to all these things they can also be on the top of the sales charts in India. Another main draw back of Motorola is the tough user interface it is providing. Nokia has the best and easy to understand interface in the market not only comparing with the Motorola even with the Sony Ericcson, LG, Samsung etc.

CellPhones

Intellectual talents made this world under single roof by the wonderful device –THE CELLPHONES.

Cell phones plays a major sold in bringing unity among various cultures and diversification. Quick transfer of information’s, greetings, important notes, joy, sorrow, sentiment, love etc., can be very conveniently shared by using cell phones. Many applications are bring into a single place where we comfortably enjoy our life. The joy of love, the sorrow of departure, the frustration of anger, the pain of disappointment, the surprise of wishes are the mixture of feelings which can be beautifully expressed by cell phones. The over usage of cell phones can be harmful too. It’s creates ear damage. A lot of misunderstandings, misbehavior spoil the character of many, wastage of money and public nuisance etc., so enjoy its benefits but it’s realize its cons too.

There are many technologies which were thought of and invented after the invention of cell phones like Bluetooth, GPRS etc. Bluetooth is a one option which was invented very recently and it became the integral option for most of the mobiles which has mp3 player and camera. It has brought to a level that we can even transfer the data from mobile to PC’s without the usage of data cable. But there are even disadvantages in it as like other technologies there many hacking techniques which could spoil other mobiles through Bluetooth.

There are several categories of mobile phones, from basic phones to feature phones such as musicphones and cameraphones, to smartphones. The first smartphone was the Nokia 9000 Communicator in 1996 which incorporated PDA functionality to the basic mobile phone at the time. As miniaturisation and increased processing power of microchips has enabled ever more features to be added to phones, the concept of the smartphone has evolved, and what was a high-end smartphone five years ago, is a standard phone today. Several phone series have been introduced to address a given market segment, such as the RIM BlackBerry focusing on enterprise/corporate customer email needs; the SonyEricsson Walkman series of musicphones and Cybershot series of cameraphones; the Nokia N-Series of multimedia phones; and the Apple iPhone which provides full-featured web access and multimedia capabilities.

Nokia Vs Sony Ericsson

All of the people in the mobile community know that presently its Nokia and Sony Ericsson are the arch rivals in the production of cell phones. Their ideas of innovation scaled to a height that other companies got over shadowed by their fame. It’s high time to revisit their features, durability and the quality of their product. Quality can be defined in many ways one such definition is based on the quality of the features. If we compare these two companies based on these criterion surely its Sony Ericsson which would stand ahead in camera and sound quality because they are the ones who brought the Walkman series and that was the mobile series which gave them a break in India. Until then India was Nokia’s share in world market mainly because of its high endurance to breakages. Even now the Nokia buyers state that the reason behind their buying of Nokia brands is their long withstanding ability. If only Sony Ericsson can improve on this sector and can make common man mobiles like Nokia’s 1100 they can be the unchallenged heroes in Indian Mobile Market. But Nokia if they can keep up with the present pace of their growth and their product’s features its more than enough for them.
